"Ugly Betty" and its star, America Ferrera, took top honors Sunday at the 2008 ALMA Awards, which recognize achievements by Hispanic artists.
The ABC comedy series won awards for directing and best performance by a Latino-led ensemble cast. Ferrera, 24, was named Chevy Entertainer of the Year for her on-screen work as Betty Suarez in "Ugly Betty" and her off-screen efforts to encourage young people to get involved in the political process.
UGLY BETTY star MARC INDELICATO is to become the latest actor to launch a pop career after recording a demo. The teenager, who plays Betty's fashion-conscious nephew Justin Suarez on the hit show, is working on his debut demo, and hopes to score a record deal.
He says, "It's pop and techno, not quite the Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana." And the enterprising teen also has plans for a new jeans line. The young actor will launch Duh Jeans later this year (08). He tells Eonline.com, "I love jeans... but I know, for a lot of kids, it's hard to find jeans, because either they're made for adults or they're made for young kids."
Talk-show host, soap alum, übermom, sassy spouse... and Ugly guest? Kelly Ripa's résumé just got one line longer.
On Ugly Betty's Sept. 25 season opener, Ripa and Live cohost Regis Philbin will be grilling "Mode" editors Wilhelmina (Vanessa Williams) and Alexis (Rebecca Romijn) when they appear on their daytime talker.
Not to be outdone, Ripa is beating her hunky hubby, Mark Consuelos, to the punch — as we reported last week, he'll be appearing on the new season's third episode. But will there be some kind of tie-in between Ripa and Consuelos' Ugly stints? That remains a mystery.
Ashley Jensen is nominated for an Emmy in the "Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Miniseries Or A Movie" for her role as Maggie Jacobs on Extras: The Extra Special Series Finale. It was a complete oversight by me when the nominations came out! (Thanks to the person who sent it in).
In other news, Lindsay Lohan filmed some scenes for the show this week to reprise her role as Kimberly. She will be in 5 episodes and will play a fast food worker at Flushing Bugers in Long Island.

The Associated Press covered the Ugly Betty block party that New York threw for the cast and crew during a day of filming outside the "Suarez Home". You can see them shooting and talking to the cast which includes a comment from Mark Indelicato about Betty moving out on her own.
Michael Urie, Becki Newton & Vanessa Williams stopped by E!Online's Kristen at the TCA in which Vanessa talks a bit about her character and the new Mode with her as Editor in Chief. They also talk about "not" working with Lindsay Lohan and Becki & Michael sing their Lohan theme song.
Tony Plana will be honored at the 23rd Annual Immagen Awards on August 21st, 2008. Tony is also nominated for an award for Best Supporting Actor as well as Ana Ortiz for Best Supporting Actress, America Ferrera for Best Actress & Ugly Betty for Best Primetime Series.

Kristen from E! Online had a little mini report from Silvio Horta at the ABC Press Tours.
Silvio Horta said about Ugly Betty season three: "This season is going to be about growing up. We aren't going to be doing anymore child-like storylines. It's going to be about moving Betty forward."
And this from Mediaweek Silvio Horta on romantic storylines versus other plots on the show:
“On Ugly Betty I think we started to veer a little too much into the romantic storyline, where it started to really become the show. And it started to just get away from what I originally wanted to do and where we originally started, which was about a girl making it in the city and her work life. So we're trying to refocus that back. But there's always temptation and you want to explore it. You want to have the opportunity to explore it. And the second you start getting too involved in it, it's like any plot line. You go in; it's very hard to get out and it takes a little longer.”
It was announced yesterday by ABC that Ugly Betty would return on September 25, 2008.
And the Emmy nominations were announced this morning. Sadly none for the show overall, but 6 in total.
